Our Valued Clients – Past and Present
Over the years Nick Littlehales has built up an impressive client list, all looking for the aggregation of marginal, practical, achievable gains.
This is a tremendously exciting development in the world of sport and one, I wholeheartedly support. Nick Littlehales provides leading professionals in the world of sport, including Manchester United Football Club with a better understanding of this natural physical and mental process enabling players to maximise the quality and consistency of sleep and in turn overall performanceGroup
The aggregation of marginal gains’, which means if you can improve a tiny amount across 10 different areas, that adds up to a considerable improvement over the opposition. It means pulling apart everything and trying to identify best practice, from the smallest detail on a bike to the pillows cyclists sleep on.
I have known Nick over many years now, his enthusiasm, experience and knowledge in this field as a leading professional sports sleeping recovery coach, provides expert, practical and achievable advice. His approach is thoroughly professional and I can fully recommend his services.
I approached Nick to help me prepare for Race Across America, a 3080 mile, 12 day ultra-cycle race. My initial concern was how to deal with the challenge of severe sleep restriction, but I quickly realised I was asking the wrong question. Nick focused me in on the importance of getting to the start line physically and mentally refreshed, taking a holistic approach not just to sleep but to the whole concept of recovery (which I generally viewed as just wasted time off the bike!). I learnt to value recovery time as vital to both training progress and health, taking both nightime sleep and naps seriously (including the odd summer lunchtime nap on a park bench across from work). This approach and the sleep hygiene strategies we implemented helped me balance a gruelling training strategy with a demanding veterinary job. We profiled my crew to find out who would fit better into day and night shifts and over the course of 3 years of big races worked on the best approaches for me to manage jet lag, sleep restriction and the delicate balance of mileage and recovery. Nick changed my whole attitude to sleep and recovery; it’s something we all need to prioritise for our wellbeing and to help us perform better at whatever we want to do. His passion for his subject and his desire to learn and to share his knowledge make him a pleasure to work with and I hope I have the opportunity to do so in the future.
Nick Littlehales is an innovative, world-class thinker. He designed the sleep solution for Team Sky’s riders – who have now won the Tour de France four times – and British Cycling, who have used his principles of sleep optimisation at the last two Olympics to great effect
